Like its neighbouring town, Georgetown, the town of Acton has been an active, industrious community for nearly 200 years. The tanning, or leather-making, industry in town was so successful that “Leathertown” was once Acton’s nickname. Acton’s rich history is reflected in the variety of houses in town, where you can find houses from virtually every decade from the mid 1800s right up to the present. Historic downtown Acton is a vibrant shopping district where you can find a variety of shops, services and restaurants inside beautiful heritage buildings. There are many interesting community centres and parks, including Acton Town Hall, which is a neighbourhood hub for arts and culture.
